An Italian soccer player has gotten himself into trouble for allegedly giving fascist salutes to fans during games. I don’t know why anyone should get agitated over that. After all, I was carefully taught, by my first grade government school teacher – beginning in the fall of 1941 – to salute the flag with my arm extended outward, palm down, as I recited my pledge of allegiance.
