Stephen Beale has written a most intriguing article, “The Dorothy Day Few of Us Know,” concerning the dedicated spiritual activist and opponent of the welfare-warfare State who (with Peter Maurin) founded the Catholic Worker Movement in the midst of the Great Depression. She was a true sister of her religious faith, dedicated to defending the Culture of Life against the grievous sins of war, abortion, hubris, and the institutionalized thievery of government.
