As a matter of law, the charges against Tom DeLay are an insult to what law used to be in this country. That does not mean, however, that I feel sorry for the guy. If the indictments could be a Lifetime Achievement Award for running a protection ring under the guise of being a congressman, then I could support the charges. Unfortunately, Ronnie Earle chose to invoke a criminal use of retroactive law — something for which he should be disbarred.
