DC’s Bastille

“American citizens are being tortured right now within five miles of the White House. Tell me… are you okay with this?” demands the headline on an article Bill Martin forwarded about the Patriots of January 6. The author “represent[s] Richard “Bigo” Barnett, also known as the man who had his feet up on a desk in Speaker Pelosi’s office on January 6, 2021.” He urges us to speak out on behalf of these political prisoners:

The ultra-harsh treatment that January-sixers are enduring at the hands of the U.S. Government is unprecedented and entirely out of line with the way that other Capitol Protestors have been treated in the past. Make no mistake about it, this is not the first time that a group of protestors have breached the Capitol, nor is it the first time that acts of violence have taken place at the Capitol. This is however, the first time that a group of American citizens from one political party have been hunted down, rounded up, and thrown into prison absent any trial by the political party who is currently in power. …

If you have failed to speak out against the constitutional and human rights violations taking place at DC-GITMO. You need to drop what you are doing and speak out now. … Step up, and speak up. Yes, this is uncomfortable, too bad— speak up. Yes, this is controversial, too bad— speak up! Because if you condone this treatment. If you fail to speak out against it. Then you will come out on the wrong side of history. And you will have betrayed your sacred duty to speak out against injustice everywhere …

We should also pray for these victims daily. And what about a march on DC on their behalf?
