Conservatives Just Don’t Get It

“The United States has spent 70 years and tens of billions of dollars training Arab militaries—with almost nothing to show for all the effort,” says ex-CIA analyst Kenneth Pollack, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. Sounds like something that I would say. But Pollack also says things like:

If the United States is going to stay involved in the Middle East, it has to rethink the way it engages with Arab militaries.

Instead of Americans trying to force Arab military personnel to do things their way, they should look for ways to help them do what they do somewhat better.

How about the United States not staying involved in the Middle East at all? How about the United States not trying to force Arab military personnel to do anything? How about staying out of the Middle East altogether? How about stop trying to police the world? The United States doesn’t need to do a better job of intervening in other countries; it needs to quit intervening in other countries.
