My in-laws attended a straw poll in Middletown, CT. Here is their unofficial report of the results:
First it should be noted that the straw poll combined an old fashioned ballot vote with an online component. Second, my father-in-law reports that it was decided mid-way through the ballot vote to do a count to see where the candidates were in relation to each other. At that point, Ron Paul was leading by about 20 votes. In the end McCain led Paul by 3 votes in the old fashioned poll:
McCain: 78 31%
Paul: 75 30%
Romney: 66 27%
Giuliani: 24 10%
Huckabee: 3 .01%
Thompson: 2 .01%
Hunter: 1 .00%
A funny thing happened on the way to the internet forum, Romney wins by a landslide.
McCain: 26 20%
Paul: 21 17%
Romney: 70 55%
Giuliani: 10 8%
And they say Ron Paul voters are online spammers. Anyway the total straw poll results are as follows:
McCain: 104 28%
Paul: 96 26%
Romney: 136 36%
Giuliani: 34 9%
Huckabee: 5 .01%
Thompson: 2 .01%
Hunter: 1 .00%
Still a strong showing for Ron Paul in the land of Lieberman Republicans.
