Have Our totalitarian Rulers nothing better to do than police–and charge us for–every minuscule detail of our lives? The question answers itself. Or we can turn to Exhibit A, in which some of New York City’s tyrants have tried to foist a 5-cent fee on plastic shopping bags. Their excuse was the usual: such bags pollute their goddess, Mother Earth. But others of the City’s politicians decried the fee. They worship a different god: the impecunious.
