Anthony, I have always been intrigued by the Republican attacks on campaign finance limitation. Can there really be a right to give money to a politician so as to have him grab other people’s property for you? Certainly giving money to a pol is not free speech, as the Republicans claim. The grassroots support for campaing finance limitation is based on healthy, anti-political feelings — which doesn’t mean the Democrats aren’t misusing it. But the case for agreeing with Bradley Smith, Tom Delay, and the rest of the Republican gang doesn’t seem to me immediately obvious.
