“Knut Wittkowski, Ph.D., the former head of the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design at the Rockefeller University in New York City” is “a veteran scholar of epidemiology” whose knowledge is exceeded only by his naivete. He notes that locking down the country is pretty much the most harmful measure Our Rulers could take because it “only prolong[s] the … pandemic … The virus could be ‘exterminated’ within weeks if people were allowed to lead normal lives and the vulnerable were sheltered until the virus passes… ‘What happens is if you flatten the curve, you also prolong, to widen it, and it takes more time,’ he explained. ‘And I don’t see a good reason for a respiratory disease to stay in the population longer than necessary.’”
Of course you don’t. Because you’re a doctor who wishes to help patients and save lives, not a politician or bureaucrat longing to rule the first and ruin the second.
But I interrupted the good doctor: “Wittkowski said the only thing that stops respiratory diseases is herd immunity. … ‘About 80% of the people need to have had contact with the virus, and the majority of them won’t even have recognized that they were infected, or they had very, very mild symptoms, especially if they are children,’ he said. ‘So, it’s very important to keep the schools open and kids mingling to spread the virus to get herd immunity as fast as possible,’ said Wittkowski.”
Hmmm. I daresay churches should re-open, too—immediately, if they truly love their neighbors. And for all you statists out there, that’s per Gov. Mike DeWhacked–sorry, DeWhine–whoops, DeWine of Ohio who prated, “We’re not going to interfere with your First Amendment rights to practice your religion [and forbid Easter services at churches this Sunday]. But I don’t know any religion that teaches that you should do things that endanger, seriously endanger, other people. I don’t know any religion that says that it’s just okay not to worry about your neighbor.” Hear that, all you pastors skulking at home? Get out there and love your neighbors by congregating this Easter, because as our epidemiologist insists, “Without that immunity, this disease ‘will go on forever…’”
Which brings me back to Dr. Wittkowski’s incomprehension of rulers’ obsession with “flattening the curve”: they hope to prolong our house arrest for as long as possible, even years, given the enormous benefits they’re reaping. “Public health” bureaucrats whom no one had ever heard of a month ago crawled out from under their rocks into the spotlight of celebrity: one word from these charlatans can force everyone to wear masks or sit six feet from a spouse or practice some other idiocy. And governors whom only political junkies once recognized now bask in the spotlight, too. Indeed, some are postponing elections, extending cronies’ terms if not their own.
Then again, Dr. Wittkowski may be more sophisticated than I assume: when “asked his opinion of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the key medical expert on the White House coronavirus task force who has promoted the mass quarantine strategy,” he scoffed, “Well, I’m not paid by the government, so I’m entitled to actually do science…”
Two points, Dr. W!
Meanwhile, over at marketticker.org, Karl Denninger orders the “fraudsters” to “Stop IT NOW.” He then destroys the “models” Our Rulers employ to justify their dictatorship over us as jaw-droppingly flawed—no, worse than jaw-droppingly flawed: they are manipulated to substantiate the claims of doom and death from politicians and bureaucrats. You know, you can’t flatten a curve unless you’ve scared your population to death first so they mindlessly obey your every stupid decree.
