Tom has brought to our attention that Bush’s press secretary held a press briefing to announce that Bush had pledged $10,000 to the tsunami relief effort. I once thought that the bottom of the barrel in the character of presidents had been reached with the Clintons, but Dubya keeps discovering sublevels of classlessness. I am reminded of Bob Hope’s old line: when I was young, we were told that, in America, anyone could grow up to be president. Now we have discovered just how true that is.
