BTW, it’s a good time to remember that Russia voluntarily withdrew from its occupation of eastern Austria in 1955,with Austria agreeing to maintain a wonderful neutrality. The US agreed. Russia also offered to withdraw from eastern Germany, with the same proviso. The US refused, condemning the eastern Germans to decades more of foreign rule. Western Germany has been occupied by the US since 1945, of course, and eastern Germany since 1990.
