A television news channel informs us that tonight’s “debate” between Trump and Clinton may draw a record 100 million viewers. I am reminded of Mark Twain’s experience when, riding on a train, he encountered a man with a dachshund dog of which the man was noticeably proud. Putting such boastfulness in perspective, Twain commented “if you take a great long low dog like that and waddle it along the street anywhere in the world and not charge anything, people will stop and look.”
