This is a paraphrase of a line in an excellent anti-war movie I recently watched on Apple TV:  Last Flag Flying.  Starring Steve Carrell, it is a story of three Vietnam War Marine Corps veterans who gather more than three decades later to bury the son of Carrell, a Marine who was killed in Iraq.  There are a lot of powerful lines about how the government lies to the parents of deceased soldiers about how and why they had to die.
