Example no. 14, 568. Police in Orlando, Florida, arrested a man, strip-searched him, and put him in a cell for ten hours until he posted a $2,500 bond. Why? What crime did he commit? The cop mistook the remnants of a Krispy Kreme doughnut for crystal methamphetamine. I thought cops knew enough about doughnuts that they would never make such a mistake? Yet, the cop who arrested this guy said: “I recognized, through my eleven years of training and experience as a law enforcement officer, the substance to be some sort of narcotic.” This reminds me of another case where cops thought that a crumb was crack cocaine. In fact, I just wrote about it a few days ago.
