Writes Gareth: Today I paid a visit to the American consulate in my hometown of Sandton, South Africa. It was built just last year on prime real estate in the city, no doubt costing tens of millions of dollars at the least. It’s a marble and concrete fortress, a bunker festooned with armed guards, barbed wire, and surveillance cameras.
