A Virtual Agora

Steve very much appreciates your reports here at LRC about

standing up against the tide of insanity that we find ourselves in these days. It helps the rest of us realize that we are not alone.

Personally, I am hoping to amplify the voices of normalcy and have taken on a side project to do just that. As you know, social media companies are doing their best to purge “wrong think” from their sites, and as a result, many conservative alternatives are popping up to serve as a refuge for such expression. While I think that’s certainly reasonable, I’m not sure that it will help in the long run. Segregating alternative views into conservative ghettos (regardless of whether or not the thoughts are even “conservative” per se) has the de facto effect of marginalizing the opinions as extremist or dangerous. Ideally, opposing views can meet on common ground – on an even playing field.

That’s the idea behind themissingcontroversy.com. The format is set up in such a way that all sides of an issue are compelled to weigh in – with no ominous disclaimers about one set of opinions being dangerous or wrong. I opened it up … with two issues: election rigging and mask wearing.

Anyone hungry for a scintillating debate may want to avail himself of Steve’s new forum.
