I saw the most sickening bumper sticker I’ve ever seen this morning: “End Alzheimers: Call Congress.” While you’re at it, why not call Congress and arrange for our rulers to end cancer, heart disease, poverty, hunger, hangnails, obesity, the common cold, and hemorrhoids? What we have here is the complete deification of the state, so much so that millions of Americans apparently think that our rulers can perform miracles and cure diseases that have existed since the dawn of time by simply passing another law. (This all began with Abe, of course).
