A Great Honor Has Been Bestowed Upon Me

I have just been given a great honor I’d like to share with you. I am now included on FIRE’s list of the disinvited.

I am now happy to report that my career has not been in vain. This is a signal honor that has been bestowed upon me, and I hope and trust no one minds me bragging about this a little bit.

Murray Sabrin invited me to speak at his Ramapo College in 2017, and then subsequently disinvited me. A student threatened to disrupt the proceedings if I came to campus to speak; he based his opposition to my appearance there on a NYTimes story which mischaracterized my views on slavery.

I don’t blame Murray for this disinvitation. He was under direct orders to do so from his dean. Anyone who knows anything about academia knows that deans have quite a bit of power over professors, even those with tenure. I thank Murray for his initial invitation to me to speak, and, even more, for his subsequent disinvitation.

Not every professor has been disinvited from a campus speech invitation. I am now, publicly, among the elect!

Here is the entire FIRE list of the disinvited.
