Neo, Not Neocon

Writes Chad Nelson:

I wanted to thank you for all that you do with the Mises Institute and (more importantly to me personally) LRC. I read an email that you published some time ago from a neocon telling you that you’d converted him to libertarianism, and your surprising response—that you don’t hear that every day. Well count me in that camp of converts as well. You’ve created a foot soldier whose mission in life has become to convert the masses.

For the life of me, I don’t know how I was ever a neocon or any kind of conservative for that matter. But I was. I was the most steadfast Bush supporter around, and in hindsight, I think it was merely out of spite for the Marxism so prominent on the Left (especially in the college setting). Little did I know that my hatred for the Left blinded me to the fascism that is ever-present on the Right. And for good measure, if there were any lingering feelings for the Right that I held, they were absolutely obliterated after finishing your book, The Left, the Right and the State. What a masterpiece.

This conversion I speak of did not take long to evolve into a full-throated embrace of anarchocapitalism. I truly feel like Neo in the Matrix waking up to the world of lies that he’s been living in. Today, I proudly declare myself a Rockwellian, and will make sure every day that I win over more converts.
