The Inconsistency of Drug Warriors

Drug warriors are so inconsistent.

According to a recent study conducted by researchers at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association:

The number of Americans who died due to alcohol-related causes skyrocketed in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alcohol-related deaths rose roughly 25% from 2019 to 2020.

Deaths involving alcohol reflect hidden tolls of the pandemic. Increased drinking to cope with pandemic-related stressors, shifting alcohol policies, and disrupted treatment access are all possible contributing factors.

The largest increases in alcohol-related deaths were found in people aged 25 to 44.

Alcohol-related deaths rose from 13.7 to 17.5 per 100,000 in women, a roughly 27% increase, and 42.1 to 52.6 per 100,000 in men.

Deaths caused by alcohol-related liver disease rose roughly 22%, while deaths with an underlying cause of alcohol-related mental and behavioral disorders soared by over 35% and opioid overdose deaths with alcohol as a contributing cause jumped 40.8%, the study found.

The conclusion is inescapable: Alcohol is unhealthy, dangerous, and deadly. The government must ban alcohol. The government must keep people from harming themselves.

According to the a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) fact sheet on alcohol use and health:

Drinking too much can harm your health. Excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths and 2.5 million years of potential life lost (YPLL) each year in the United States from 2006 – 2010, shortening the lives of those who died by an average of 30 years. Further, excessive drinking was responsible for 1 in 10 deaths among working-age adults aged 20-64 years. The economic costs of excessive alcohol consumption in 2010 were estimated at $249 billion, or $2.05 a drink.

Short-term health risks include: injuries, car accidents, falls, drownings, burns, violence, suicide, sexual assault, alcohol poisoning, and risky sexual behaviors. Long-term health risks include: high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, digestive problems, cancer, learning and memory problems, dementia, poor school performance, depression, anxiety, lost productivity, family problems, unemployment, and alcoholism.

The CDC even states that “there are some people who should not drink any alcohol”: anyone younger than age 21, women who are or may be pregnant, anyone driving or planning to drive, anyone participating in activities requiring skill, coordination, and alertness, anyone taking certain prescription or over-the-counter medications that can interact with alcohol, anyone suffering from certain medical conditions, and anyone recovering from alcoholism or are unable to control the amount they drink.

Again, the conclusion is inescapable: Alcohol is unhealthy, dangerous, and deadly. The government must ban alcohol. The government must keep people from harming themselves.

Alcohol (ethanol — the active ingredient in all beers, wines, and distilled spirits) is not only unhealthy, dangerous, and deadly, it is a gateway drug. Every person who ever smoked pot, snorted cocaine, injected heroin, or popped ecstasy pills did not become a drug addict without first getting drunk on alcohol.

So again, the conclusion is inescapable: Alcohol is unhealthy, dangerous, and deadly. The government must ban alcohol. The government must keep people from harming themselves.

The government banned alcohol once before (Prohibition lasted from 1920 to 1933), and can do it again. But this time no amendment to the Constitution is needed. After all, there is no amendment to the Constitution authorizing the federal government to wage war on marijuana. The possession of even a small amount of marijuana can result in fines and imprisonment since the federal government classifies marijuana as a Schedule I controlled substance with “a high potential for abuse,” “no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States,” and “a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug under medical supervision.”

Drug warriors are so inconsistent. If they really wanted to keep people from harming themselves they would put all of their time, energy, and effort into making sure the government bans alcohol. But instead, they drink alcohol and cheer on the government as it arrests, fines, and imprisons people for smoking marijuana.

This is not only inconsistent, it is evil.
