War is the Health of the…Economy?
Tyler Cowen recently argued in his New York Times blog that the present stagnation in economic growth may be partially due to the lack of massive wars on the scale of the World Wars and Vietnam. Before further examining his argument, let us stress what he is not arguing. He is not arguing that we should therefore want more major wars. His claim is positive, not normative.
