More Cultural Literacy: A Reading List for Beginners

In my last article, I provided the first half of a 100-title reading list for cultural literacy that grew out of conversations with some literary colleagues.1 This second half picks up chronologically where the first one left off, in the 19th century. As we get closer to the present, it becomes more difficult to pin down what is necessary for cultural literacy.
