Ellsworth M. Statler (18631928), whose portrait is on the right here, came from humble beginnings to build, own and manage a well-known chain of large luxury hotels in America. In the year 1927 he opened his flagship hotel in the city of Boston, Massachusetts — the Boston Statler Hotel. It had 1,300 rooms, each equipped with a radio, an expensive innovation at the time.
