Thanks to Declan McCullagh for alerting me to the government’s plan to increase its power to track and detain travelers as part of the war on….drugs? no…terrorism? no…this week we are losing our liberty to the war on infectious diseases. A poster at the Daily Kos reminds us that the administration has been seeking this type of power at least since 9/11 so it is not surprising they would take advantage of the latest “crisis” to expand the surveillance state. Declan correctly wonders if the Daily Kos folks would oppose this plan if it where advanced by a President (Bill or Hillary) Clinton instead of by a Texas Republican.
