My home insurance bill this year is 25 percent higher than it was 2 years ago. I got a competitive quote and that was even higher. At one local restaurant that opened up less than a year ago that I patronize, today there was a notice: “Due to rising costs, the lunch buffet will no longer include a drink…” Since the buffet is $6.99 and the drink costs about $1, that’s effectively a rise from $5.99 to $6.99 or 17 percent. My only reservation is reporting this is that my e-mail might overflow with hundreds of other examples from LRC blog readers.
