What is worse than a hug or a handshake? From Thicker Than Oil: America’s Uneasy Partnership with Saudi Arabia, by Rachel Bronson (Oxford University Press, 2006):

The defense secretary [Cheney] made clear that the situation for Saudi Arabia was grave and that a serious and determined response was appropriate. He proposed a two-pronged strategy–defense of Saudi Arabia and strangulation of Iraq. He then turned the session over to Schwarzkopf. Bent on one knee in front of the king, Schwarzkopf methodically presented the war plans to King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah, the foreign minister, Prince Saud, the deputy defense minister, Prince Abdel Rahman, and the chief of staff, General Hamad.

Also in attendance were Robert Gates, Paul Wolfowitz, and Charles Freeman. Had he been there, Newt Gingrich would have been on the floor prostrate before the Saudi king.

Republicans are hypocrites, and have absolutely no credibility.
