“With Us or Against Us” Declaration: Making Jonah Goldberg Proud

In this blog post, Jonah is boasting “After looking at my 9/11/01 G-File a reader suggests that I might have been the first to make the you’re either with us or against us declaration. President Bush apparently didn’t say it until Nov. 6, 2001. . It’d be cool, no doubt, if I was the first. But my guess is that this was all in the air back then and claiming credit for that sentiment would be like claiming credit for being the first to yell, “Bastards!” on 9/11.”

By the way Jonah, James Bovard, in his new book, has Bush saying it on 9/20/2001: “Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists.” (Speech to Congress, September 20, 2001.) But I suppose the National Review crowd will be either ignoring the Bovard book entirely, or dissing it in the press.
