Why I am Not a Libertarian

Many folks may or may not know that we writers field a lot of emails from readers on a daily basis. I don’t complain, for it is because of them that I spend less time keeping abreast of so much more stuff than I ever could on my own. Additionally, I have met so many great and smart people this way. However, some folks still like to use the mass email spam tactic to spread their opinion and favorite stories; that is, building ‘blind copy’ lists and sending out material or comments on these lists to folks who were never asked if they wanted to participate in the email exchanges. The emails come often – sometimes many per day from just one person.

Mass spamming lists are so yesterday, because if folks really have something valuable to say, they will attract voluntary readership via publishing articles, blogging, using Twitter, or even posting on Facebook. Since I field about 150 emails per day at my job, and then I come home to another 200+ private emails (sometimes many more), it just isn’t physically possible to respond to all of them, let alone sift through the spam.

I’ve had one person, Bruce, spamming me quite incessantly lately, and it took me a while to finally write a “vicious” email that went as follows: “Can you please take me off of these emails?” Here is his response:

Absolutely. And my friends and I will immediately STOP mistaking you for a libertarian fighting for this country and gladly stop reading your material.

Ummm, whattya say to something like that? I don’t know who Bruce’s “friends” are, but apparently, he speaks for all of them and has judged that I cannot possibly be “libertarian” because I kindly asked him to stop overwhelming my inbox with his personal comments and rants. Silly but true.
