Where the Future Lies

C-SPAN is now providing live coverage of a John McCain “town hall meeting” in New Hampshire. Sharing the stage with him are many supporters, most of whom appear to be in their 70s or 80s, and many of whom wear death-mask expressions as they listen to McCain. Most of the rest of the audience appears to be middle-aged and older – persons that my daughters would refer to as the “geezers” of their parents’ generation.

If a Ron Paul meeting is to be covered by C-SPAN, it will be interesting to observe the age demographics of that audience. I suspect that elderly members who come to hear Paul will be much more enthusiastic than their McCain counterparts, and will wear smiles of optimism rather than American Legion caps extolling the virtues of World War II! The rest of the audience will be composed of much younger persons, some even too young to vote for the candidate of their choice.
