What We Are Up Against

I received this in response to my article today, “Thank You for Your Service?” I post it here to show what we are up against. I suppose millions and millions of Americans hold to the idea that the military defends our freedoms. The writer is a veteran. I am omitting his name and branch of service because he would probably not be so bold and brave in public. This is just so typical of the military mindset.

There are very few countries on this planet where people have the freedom to spew hate and discontent openly and freely like you did in your childish rant toward the US military. In many countries you would already be dead or probably wishing you were dead. The US Military has protected your right to free speech throughout our history, as well as our other God given rights. Apparently, you have never had to stomp through jungles, sleep in a fox hole, miss holidays with family, stay awake all night because someone might sneak up on you and slit your throat or toss a grenade in by your bunk. It’s just a guess on my part and if I’m wrong I apologize but I suspect you have always had a wonderful life and have been able to take for granted all the freedoms of this blessed country. Freedoms paid for with blood. This would normally be where I would insert several obscenities or pound you into the ground if you were close by, but today, I will forgive you of your ignorance and ungratefulness and God will too, if you ask. I would also suggest that you leave this country for another that suits you.

No, I never had to stomp through jungles, sleep in a fox hole, miss holidays with family, stay awake all night because someone might sneak up on me and slit my throat or toss a grenade in by my bunk. This is because I never took part in invading and occupying foreign countries. And by the way, I am not asking. And neither am I leaving the country—I don’t want to be sexually assaulted at the airport on my way out by veterans that now work for the TSA.

On the myth that the military defends our freedoms, see Jacob Hornberger here and here.
