What the Bernie Kerik Nomination Means

Or at least one thing that it means: the former police campaign bodyboard and drinking buddy to Rudy Giuliani, a man who was made NYC commissioner by Rudy seven years later, owes absolutely everything to his patron. Rudy even sent him to train Iraqi cops to be loyal to DC, at which he was a spectacular failure, in one of Giuliani Partner’s lush government contracts. Now, after heavy lobbying by Rudy, Bush has made Kerik minister of homeland security. The color-coded bureaucracy may be many other things, but it is also the biggest pork barrel outside of the Pentagon. So Rudy’s pal will now be in a position to divert some of those $35 billion to his patron’s suspicious lobbying and security firm. Undoubtedly Daddy Bush’s Carlyle Group will continue to do very well. One other point: the fact that the monstrous fixer Giuliani could pull this off shows that he is on track for the 2008 presidential nomination, to the cheers of the conservative booboisie, who would be mollified by Jeb Bush as veep. Rudy would serve one term, it is said, and then it would be back to Bushrule. Democracy–ain’t it fun?
