We Want Welfare! We Want Inflation!

These are two of the principal policy ideas associated with Milton Friedman, who some of the beltway “libertarians” have been desperately defending recently by smearing Murray Rothbard on the Web. They’re apparently terrified that Rothbard’s writings are exploding in popularity, while their role model Friedman is all but forgotten. As for the title of this blog, Friedman was known for advocating a “negative income tax,” or handing out taxpayer dollars to welfare parasites. He was also an inflationist who, despite all of his criticisms of the Fed, advocated a “monetary rule” that would guarantee constant money creation by the Fed.

And Friedman also advocated looting the taxpayers for school “vouchers” that would guarantee government control of all “private” schools.

As opposed to the SPONTANEOUS eruption of “END THE FED” by several thousand university students at a Ron Paul rally when Ron ran for president, could you imagine a similar rally of students chanting, “Vouchers! Vouchers!  Give us Vouchers!?  Or, “Pay Welfare Bums in Cash!” Pay Welfare Bums in Cash!” It just doesn’t sound quite as inspiring.
