“Warlords Next Door”

An interview with a journalist about Somalia – apparently a member of the Axis of Evil, since our leaders have been bombing them for some time now. How do US air strikes and circling US spy planes affect the opinions of the people who live in the midst of a civil war? Do they embrace the west as saviors? After 17 years of war, it’s hard to see what the west has done to save them. Do they feel isolated and embrace extremism? That’s where my money is. We’d do well to follow the advice of this journalist:

The West [should] try to urgently come up with solutions … with international neutral support for diplomacy and humanitarian relief rather than military intervention.

I would add that the best solution for humanitarian relief is trade and voluntary charity.
