Victor Davis Hanson

I spent three hours on Sunday watching C-Span’s “In Depth” with Victor Davis Hanson.

Formidable fellow. Fourth generation San Joaquin Valley family. He lives in the family home in Selma, near Fresno. Classicist, undergraduate UC Santa Cruz, PhD at Stanford, faculty UC Fresno, now to be at Hoover 2 days a week.

This is no Richard Perle-type warmonger. In a way, much more dangerous. Very scholarly; sort of a Waspy Chomsky.

His specialty: war. Sixteen books mostly on that subject. Seems to use the history of war as an index for the progress of Western civilization.

Yet he is sound on some issues. He is sort of a Buchananite on immigration. Outspoken critic of university faculty, administration, tenure, and race-centered courses.

Admires the Armenian “integration” in the Fresno area. Very critical of the massive influx of Mexicans to California. Some of what he said on that subject sounded like Brimelow.

I wonder if any of our folks watched the show.

Comments, please.
