Veterans Day Sunday

Because this is the Sunday before Veterans Day, today is Veterans Day Sunday for most churches that recognize the day. No, it is not mentioned in the Bible, but it almost seems like it because of the way some churches, probably most churches, religiously celebrate it. It is bad enough when the choir sings the Battle Hymn, when the choir sings America the Beautiful, when the congregation sings My Country Tis of Thee, when a video is shown about how veterans defend our freedoms, when the American flag is moved out to the edge of the platform, when the Pledge is recited, when veterans are recognized, when veteran spouses are recognized, or when is it is said how the military defends our freedoms, but it is an abomination when all of these things are done in one Sunday morning service like I had the misfortune of witnessing this morning at a church I visited. I am still in a state of shock.

What is more tragic is that this or worse took place at hundreds of churches today. I get enough e-mails about this around this time each year to know that this must be the case.
