US Beef Exports

The story of the anti-protective USDA’s history with a company called Creekstone Farms was re-hashed and summarized in a NY Times OpEd on Friday amid the recent events in South Korea. A private farmer wants to put up its own private capital to conduct tests for mad cow in every cow it slaughters and the USDA said it couldn’t. On what grounds?!? According to the USDA it is because it is possible that there would be a false positive in the testing. I’m sure you realize that a false positive means that the test errs on the conservative side – a cow could be healthy, but be deemed sick. So who is the USDA protecting again?
