NPR’s Talk of the Nation had a segment today called “How To Help Kids Handle Death And Grieving.” The segment opened with the story of the death of Cpl. Jeremy Loveless in Iraq from a sniper’s bullet in 2006 and how his widow helped the four-year-old daughter he left behind cope with her father’s death while she was grieving herself. A very sad story. I have only two remarks to make.
1. Does anyone ever think about the Iraqis that were killed by U.S. snipers and the loved ones they left behind? I didn’t think so.
2. The death of Jeremy Loveless was so unnecessary. Although his family, like many Americans, may have thought at the time that he died defending our freedoms, and may even still think so, the truth is that Jeremy died for a lie that was the necessity of the war in Iraq.
