UK Writer Blames European Meat Scandal on the Free Market

A writer for the Observer blames the European meat scandal on the free market. It was caused by cuts in the ranks of government inspectors. His solution, of course, is more intervention. He speaks of a “codependency between state, society, business and business supply chains.” But cuts or no cuts, does anyone think for a minute that a real free market existed in meat or anything else anywhere in the UK or Europe?
