Ugly, Vapid Memorials

The state can no longer build effective monuments, as shown not only by the proposed WTC memorial, but also by the Murrah, FDR, and WWII memorials. In fact, has the US state ever built anything beautiful or just impressive that was not copied from the ancients? Maybe the memorial to the war on Vietnam–not counting the statues appended to it thanks to the War Street Journal’s hysterical lobbying.
