Bush adheres to a style of evangelical belief that is always looking for special signs from God to find out what to do next (the old Christian view assumed it was enough to just adhere to Christian virtue; to demand a sign would have been considered presumptious if not downright nuts.). Various reports suggest that Bush believed that he had a special message that God wanted him to overthrow Saddam. Perhaps he should treat his bike mishap, a day after claiming that Iraq was ready to go without “training wheels,” as a sign that he should withdraw the troops. Maybe there’s a message in the bike mishap too–a heavenly irony that points to the need for inner reflection over murdering foreigners. Pray about it, Mr. President!
