Touch a Government Employee, Go To Prison

A member of the New Jersey legislature has introduced a bill making any “attack” on a government public works employee a felony complete with 3–5 years in prison. Now, New Jersey already has laws against assault, so one would think that this would be a redundant piece of legislation.

However, once again we see governments giving extra protection to its own. Police are free to wound or kill people (and get away with it), prosecutors who knowingly bring false charges are just “doing their jobs” (according to one Georgia State Bar employee to whom I spoke), and on and on and on. No, I am not advocating that people attack government employees, but when they attack and brutalize us mere “Mundanes,” that is just another day at the office.
