Too Bad for the Fed: the Times They Are A-Changin’

Here is another indication of Fed angst, or angst for the Fed, and of course it represents a rather narrow perspective. Writes Hans Haskell:

From time to time I get invited to participate in opinion polls. Imagine my surprise when the first four questions were about the Fed! I don’t know who paid for this poll or why they did but it’s telling to me that questions about the Fed even show up in an opinion poll. Times are changing!

How familiar are you with the Federal Reserve Board?
o Very familiar
o Somewhat familiar
o Not very familiar
o Not sure what it is

Who do you trust MOST to handle the problems of the economy?
o The President
o The Federal Reserve Board
o Congress

Who do you trust LEAST to handle the problems of the economy?
o The President
o The Federal Reserve Board
o Congress

Who would you rather have as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board?
o Larry Summers
o Ben Bernanke
o Not sure

At the end of the poll, I was asked to give feedback on the polling experience. I said that they were missing the correct answers on the questions, and left out the most important one:

Should the Federal Reserve exist?
o Yes
o Maybe
o No
o Hell No!
