Tom Mix, Imperialist

Writes Eric Heuerman:

Last night I DVR’d a 12-minute bio of silent film westerns star, Tom Mix, on Turner Classic Movies produced during the “golden years” of Hollywood. The narrator of the short film states that in addition to charging up San Juan Hill with Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, Mix also “served his country” by helping to put down the “insurrection” in the Philippines, as well as the Boxer Rebellion in China.

Clearly, his service to his country did not truly begin until he began making films (in which he pretends to kill) that were enjoyed and consumed by a paying public, rather than invading foreign lands and massacring the natives.
