To State the Obvious

The U.S. doesn’t bring up an armada, ready to launch hundreds of missiles, in order to make a statement about chemicals in warfare. It has never made such a statement in the Iraq-Iran War case, and suffered no loss in credibility by that inaction.

The goal of the attack is to destroy as much of the Syrian government’s fighting capacity as possible in order to shift the battlefield odds in favor of the rebels.

The context of overtly joining the war on the rebel side is that the U.S. has been covertly on their side for two years, helping to create a huge stream of refugees, which in turn shows that the projected attack has nothing to do with humanitarian aims either.
