There WAS an Assault in the Duke Case: An Assault on the Law

While the national press still is stuck on the notion that the Duke lacrosse players really did rape Crystal Gail Mangum, the Durham Herald-Sun has been wired into the information, as the defense attorneys continue to shred this case. In the lastest salvo, we find that Mangum failed to ID anyone at the beginning, and that the “nurse” who made the original “rape” findings was in training and probably not competent to make such a judgment.

As I continue to follow this case, I must admit that my attitudes have changed. At the beginning, I simply thought that the DA Mike Nifong was being overzealous. Now I know that he has been lying all along. This man has been a prosecutor for 25 years. He knows the law and he knows how to spot a false accusation from a real one.

What we have witnessed is a crime, and I don’t mean that figuratively. It is against the law for a prosecutor to knowingly file false charges, and I can guarantee you that this is a case in which the prosecutor knew what he was doing. For the latest on this case, the Johnsville News blog is the best source.
