A friend who sends several of her five children to a “private” Catholic school tells of a run-in she had yesterday with Michelle Obama’s newly-appointed School Food Police. She had an especially hectic morning and was unable to prepare lunch for everyone. So, she stopped at a “Subway” sandwich shop to pick up one of those health-conscious meat-and-veggie sandwiches to deliver to her daughter at the school. (Web articles inform us that “Subway” has captured more than three-fourths of the lunchtime “health conscious” fast-food market. You may remember seeing “Jared” on their TV commercials. He’s the guy who lost a hundred pounds by eating low-calorie Subway sandwiches for most of his meals).
When she asked someone at the school to get the sandwich to her daughter for lunch the person said, “I’m sorry we can’t do that; we get federal money and we can’t give the kids fast food.” The crisis was eventually resolved when the school food policewoman took the sandwich and wrapped it in a plain brown paper bag.
Then there is the article I just read about how several states have passed laws requiring dogs to wear seatbelts.
