The Tibet Hypocrisy

China first invaded Tibet in 1950, but since China was under Mao’s infamous Great Leap Forward, which had the full support of European and American intellectuals, there was no word of condemnation from the American Left. When I was in college in the early 1970s, Mao was the darling of leftist intellectuals, both secular and religious, who continuously sang the praises of the “Great Helmsman.”

During this period, Chinese repression in Tibet was much more brutal than anything we see now, yet the same leftists who supported the murderous brutality that was part-and-parcel to Mao’s regime now suddenly have discovered Tibet. Pardon me while I laugh.

The only reason these people are concerned about Tibet is because China has been running headlong away from communism, and the left does not like it. The same can be said for the Neo-cons (emphasis on “cons”) who pretty much hate anything capitalist and are wanting to whip up war hysteria between the USA and China.
