The Tea Has Gone Cold

I have watched, on C-SPAN, about as much of a Tea Party seance as I can tolerate.  In addressing the political future of this movement, it has become evident that it is, at best, warmed over conservative Republicanism.  Those who purported to speak on behalf of the Tea Party — a cute trick for a phenomenon that has no formal leadership — mentioned such concerns as “taxes,” “balanced budgets,” “corruption,” “national debt,” and related matters.  Not once did I hear the words  ”war,” “auditing the Federal Reserve,” or “Ron Paul” mentioned.   While the intellectual and moral “corruption” of statism would have been worth exploring, a much narrower — and politically safer — topic of special interest cronyism was all that was mentioned.

Once again, the establishment owners co-opt and turn to their advantage even those energies and sentiments directed against their racket.  This is why I have long used the word “anarchist” to express my own opinions: I would love to see the political power-structure try to associate itself with that!
