The British government long ago banned guns for victims and other regular people, leaving only state flunkies and criminals to be armed, if I do not repeat myself. But in recent years there has been hysteria over knives (“They’re pointed, they cut!”), with some people proposing they be banned. So far, that idiocy hasn’t happened, though this may be a bad sign. Next, perhaps: the blunt toothpick, for total safety.
