The Spending Propaganda Game

The Obama liedoctors are working overtime, as usual. We are supposed to think about only this: should we note that a 1/2% cut in spending is tiny (the Republicans), or that a $17 billion cut is significant (Democrats). “Cut”? The budget is being increased by almost 60%. There is no cut. Murray Rothbard used to differentiate between a cut in DC terms, which is a “cut” in a desired increase in spending, and a cut-cut, which is what we in the private economy understand as a cut, that is, less spending this year than last. Building on Bush’s vast increases, Obama is spending even more. There is no cut. The state and its friends thrive even more than usual, as they impoverish us.
